Payton’s Nick Tahou Garbage Plate Review

Located on 320 W Main Street in Rochester NY, Nick Tahou’s is the place to go when craving a garbage plate. The restaurant was founded in 1918 and the building itself used to be a train station, thus explaining the old architecture. The building has two entrances, one in the front and one in the back where their parking is.

The interior is a small diner styled restaurant but seats quite a lot of people. The place was quite clean for it being a busy time of day and the kitchen was open for us to see them cook. Me and my boyfriend went on a Saturday and there were about 10-12 people eating there. When ordering, our cashier was kind and very knowledgeable about the ingredients.

Ordered: Cheeseburger Plate - $11.57

  • Home fries (x2)
  • Two burger patties with cheese
  • Meat sauce
    • comes with Mac and mustard and onions but I didn’t want those on my plate

I was weary to try the food, especially when doing research and seeing images of the food online but I was thankfully proven wrong. The food was very delicious. It smelled well seasoned. The food had a small kick to it but tasted exquisite. The flavor profile reminded me of a Shepard's pie. The one complaint that I have is about the home fries as they varied in texture as some were soft and others were under cooked and felt more firm. But this one thing aside, the food together blew my expectations away.

The food also came with some white bread on the side that my boyfriend tried (I don’t like soft bread). He said the bread was soft and sweet with no butter and he liked that the bread was cold.
